«The 4 Towers of Madrid have been a real obsession in her painting and she is excited to have witnessed its construction. They have motivated her to create multiple frames with different textures and colors. This is the work of Helena Maclean visual artist participating in @artistferiaartecontemporaneo «

Maclean is an English artist, designer and painter of Scottish ancestry based in Madrid. She trained in Interior Design I.A.D.E in Madrid, first and at the New York Film Academy, later.

Presented her first solo exhibition in 2003. Since then and to the date she has been exhibiting in Madrid, and in different cultural centers of Castilla-La Mancha. In parallel, she has held several collective exhibitions in Spain, of which we highlight the exhibition on women and their influence, at the Conde Duque Barracks. In 2006 she made her first international exhibition with a collective in Paris, “Meeting of European Painters”. It is in 2017 when she begins to exhibit at Art fairs such as Art Fair Málaga, BERLINER LISTE or HYBRID ART FAIR FESTIVAL.

As a plastic artist, I have always been interested in architecture from a plastic point of view. I think that the concept of “deconstructive architecture” combines both in a very complete way. The concept of deconstruction is to participate at the same time of philosophy and literature. Although the term was used by Heidegger, it is Derrida’s work that has systematized its use and theorized its practice.

It is curious how light transforms cities. Somehow nature seems to conflict with the cities that emerge.

The 4 Towers of Madrid have been a real obsession in my painting and I am excited to have witnessed its construction. They have motivated me to create multiple paintings with different textures and colors, different techniques that have been abstracted and disintegrated into large murals with a mosaic of canvases.

In 2020 the 4 Towers will become 5, which I refer to in my painting “The 5th Tower”.
